Photo Barn adopts a green strategy for old cameras
Who is CameraRecyle Australia?
Camera Recycle Australia is a voluntary recycling initiative for the Photographic Industry. It has been established to ensure high environmental standards in an ever increasing environmentally conscious community.
Why do we need a recycling program?
Cameras, batteries, and many photographic accessories are NOT biodegradable. Over 90% of the plastics and metals in these products can be recovered and used in raw materials to make new products such as furniture, fence posts, garden edging and much more.
Cameras themselves many contain small amounts of potentially hazardous materials which, if not handled correctly at the end of their lives, can harm the environment.
CameraRecycle Australia aims to:
collect cameras, batteries, and photographic accessories at the end of their useful life;
recover as much of the materials in these items for re-use
prevent cameras, batteries, and accessories from ending up in landfill.
Photo Barn is proud to be associated with this venture.
When should I recycle my camera and/or battery?
Cameras can be recycled if they are broken and beyond repair, or simply when they have been replaced and are no longer required. Rechargeable batteries can be recycled when they no longer hold their charge or with non-rechargeable batteries, when they have been used once. Batteries that should be recycled include Lithium, NmHi, and (Oxy)Alkaline.
Photo Barn has drop boxes in-store where you can drop in your unwanted photographic gear and help reduce the amount of material going to landfill.
